French Cleat Wall
So here is what the shop looked like after I first moved in, it was still a garage.
All the mobile tools are in, but it’s dark, and unfinished, and disorganized
I had to utilize the space like this for a few months. and it took a while to convince my parents that it was time for a major overhaul, but eventually I sold them on the idea of a french cleat wall to help with organization.
WOOO HOOO! French Cleats, fresh paint, New Organizational strategies.
Now because I still had a full time job in another state, I had to go home and let my family organize the new cleat wall.
AGH!!! all the time and energy that went into cleaning, painting, hanging the french cleats, all for nought! I had to work to think fast and come up with a plan that would work for everyone and still be a better usage of the available space.
Yeah I know it is a mess, I’m in the middle of learning how to dimension rough lumber by hand… so I’ll be buried in maple and oak shavings for a while… and a lot of my lumber storage is down because I was looking for a few boards and haven’t cleaned up. But the moral of the story is that there is more walking, working, and storage space than ever before! my brother in laws corner looks darker than before, partially that’s the color temp between my super bright American Green Light LEDs but also that’s one of the old LED units that I had from before, and they really drop in brightness and color with age. That unit is only two years old and it’s easily half as bright and the color temp has gotten very green.
Now the really big exciting news is that my Dad has agreed to let me tackle his shop next… here’s what that project looks like.
